His date and place of birth
Born in Quebec in 1969, Josée La Roche is now established on the South Shore of Quebec.

His education, his career
From an early age, Josée La Roche discovered a marked interest in drawing. Many of his childhood memories refer to the pleasure of drawing and creating. Her artistic talent led her to studies in Clothing Art, then in Advertising Design. A few years in the world of graphic arts, notably as a specifier with architects and designers, brought him assets but were not enough to satisfy his desire to express himself through the arts.

Self-taught, Josée La Roche discovered painting in 2001. This first contact was certainly a great encounter! That year, she spent all her free time painting, sometimes going so far as to get up at night to create all the canvases that lay dormant within her. Since then, this artist with an unusual career has only followed a brief training with the portrait painter Emmanuel Garant, who nevertheless instils in her confidence and faith in her talent. She exhibited her first works in galleries in 2007.
Josée La Roche, painter His work, his art
In my perception of painting, there are few premeditations, few are the intentions. The canvas is made and undone, is built to better fade away, tirelessly until harmony imposes itself. (…) my paintings are always realized very spontaneously. »

Canvas after canvas, Josée La Roche pursues her quest for human expression. Femininity, music and dance are in the spotlight in her creation. An excellent draughtsman, she manages in a few large oil strokes to identify the masses and shapes in her composition. Through the human figure, it is the “inner gaze”, the emotion of the moment which is her main source of inspiration. Also, even if she masters the art of the portrait very well, she does not hesitate to detach herself from the precision of a face or a look to give more intensity, sensuality or breadth to the whole work. She fully assumes her penchant for contrasts, willingly confessing her pleasure in seeing the color unfold and light up under her spatula.

Through spontaneous, daring and above all very powerful gestures, this artist transposes this strength and this vitality that inhabit her through her pictorial work. In love with life, her subjects testify to the passion she has for it.

Josée La Roche has been represented by the Au P'tit Bonheur Art Gallery since 2010
