Madeleine Tailor, painter

Madeleine Tailleur was born in 1946 in Montreal, Quebec. As poetic visions of the past and present, her paintings are often delicately animated by the figures of young women who look like muses, ancestors, guardian angels... Transparency, luminosity and fluidity characterize her work.

Madeleine Tailleur - Faces from the imaginary realm
Date and place of birth
Madeleine Tailleur was born in Montreal in 1946.

Background and career
Madeleine Tailleur studied at Collège Marguerite Bourgeoys before training in the studios of Georges de Rome and Alex Bertrand. In 1975, she successfully freed herself of all influences and forged her own personal style while creating an original palette in her preferred medium of oil. Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries since the early 1980s.

Work and art
Madeleine Tailleur’s work leads us to the edge of the real world, where we cross over into the realm of the imagination. We are immediately drawn in by a poetic world full of emotion and sensation, yet forced to question our basic values and the ultimate meaning of life. This artist seems caught between what her eyes see and what her imagination reveals.

Madeleine Tailleur resembles her work: she displays a strong personality, firmly rooted in the real world, but her tenderness and her eyes reveal a deep gentleness, heightened sensitivity and an intense inner life.

Through the clarity and misty luminosity of her characters, the delicate shades that blend together, and the subtle lines that merely suggest, we discover here and there, beyond the real world depicted in her paintings, other faces vital to the integrity of her work. As poetic visions of the past and present, her paintings are often delicately animated with the faces of young women who look like muses, ancestors, guardian angels…

Madeleine Tailleur is represented by the Au P'tit Bonheur Art Gallery since 2008.
