Marie-Claude Boucher - A Place to Call Home

Date and place of birth
Marie-Claude Boucher, now living in Montreal, was born in Charny, Quebec in 1973.

Background and career
Her interest in art began at an early age when she could often be found drawing with her twin sister. She studied Latin, Spanish language and French literature at McGill University, graduating with a degree in Arts and Literature. After a brief teaching career, she made the decision to devote her time to her true passion, painting.

Her work has been shown in fine art galleries throughout North America since 2004.

Very generous, the artist does not hesitate to get involved with causes that are close to her heart. As such, her work can be found adorning the walls of the Montreal Children's Hospital and the Veterans Hospital in Montreal. Her playful style has also been used to illustrate "Super Katie to the Rescue", a children's book that incorporates her whimsical style into a unique figurative approach.

Work and art
Marie-Claude has developed her style with the use of spontaneous, wide and loose brush strokes. She maintains a palette of primary and bold colours relying on the use of fluid brush strokes and minimal details to convey her message: “I am not looking for perfection in the details, but rather simplicity in my settings.” It is in the countryside where she finds her inspiration, often interpreted through welcoming houses with red roofs and flower gardens. She is drawn to the charm of rural life: the white picket fences, the bike left by the tree, the laundry drying on the clothesline... An avid traveler, she is also inspired by the places she has visited, as evidenced by her series of Parisian balconies, lavender fields and Hawaiian landscapes.

Blessed with a vibrant spirit and effervescent personality, Marie-Claude pours her soul into each painting. Her ability to find joy in every moment defines her personality and, in turn, her art.

When it comes to perfection in art, I am a rebel in that I choose to explore originality, audacity and simplicity. When faced with a blank canvas for the first time I aim for spontaneity to allow each work to progress in its own direction. By allowing my feelings to direct the flow of my work, I am able to capture the energy of the moment, allowing each work to convey to the viewer a small glimpse of myself. -Marie-Claude Boucher

The liveliness in her painting style allows us to appreciate her personal zest for the act of painting, and her colourful approach bears her inimitable signature.

Marie-Claude Boucher is represented by the Au P'tit Bonheur Art Gallery since May 2021.
